Here in Kerala smoking has been banned from public places. I know tourists even who have been ticked off by locals for sparking up. In the working warehouses of Matancherry, however, no one is going to tell off this chap for having a sneaky one.
Head Dress

You’ll see head dresses of many types across India. Some plain, some patterned. They serve different uses too. In the north you’ll find men wearing them to protect their heads from the heat. Sometimes, like this man, they are worn to assist with their work where the carrying of heavy sacks is achieved by stacking [...]
Holi Fire!
I couldn’t believe it when I saw this! The night before Holi (the famous Hindu celebration of colour) a headmaster in an ashram was encouraging his young teenage pupils to jump through three fires of burning cow-dung! He had a whistle in his mouth and every few seconds he would blow it and encourage his [...]
Striking Yellow

I met this woman in Anja (Gujarat, India) and was just taken with her striking beauty. She was carrying a baby and was happy to be photographed but she held this certain ‘mystique’ about her. She’s not obviously pretty but in her yellow sari and almond eyes she stood out amongst the crowd. Click on [...]
Church Prayer

When I visited this church in Thrissur (Kerala, India) I saw this lady, on her knees, arms raised, shuffling forwards towards the altar. It was such a great moment, especially with the window behind her head, that I had to take it (big ISO as it was dark). Was I right to take this or [...]

Celebratory New Year Dancers

My Town

This was taken a few hours ago in town. There’s a pre-Christmas carnival happening here in Cochin, Kerala (India) and I think this afternoon was a practice run for it. Drummer Boy

Even the Hindus were out in the streets of Cochin this afternoon, along with the Catholics, the Muslims, the nuns and the shoppers. These guys held up the traffic as they drummed unison, entertaining the Christmas shoppers with their perfect rhythm. You may view this as a correctly sized image in Lightbox.
Early Morning Cycle

Blink and you’ll miss the local Assamese chap going for a very early morning cycle ride. Remember, if the image is too big and you’re reading this on the website then click on it to view a resized version in Lightbox. Google+: Reshared 1 times Google+: View post on Google+
